I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in November 2022. After 6 rounds of chemo, I had surgery out of state, which resulted in me having an ileostomy. I couldn't even pronounce the word correctly, much less know what it was. The hospital staff gave my husband and I basic training on ileostomy care and my new way of life. We were able to adjust food-wise and tried to learn as we went with changing the pouch. We quickly realized we were way over our heads with pouch knowledge when we were changing it every 2 - 3 hours. After contacting our primary care doctor, he referred us to the Wound Clinic. From the minute we met Michelle, I knew things were going to be much better with my ileostomy. She quickly recognized the problem I was experiencing and had a workable solution. I immediately started feeling better physically, and we were both so impressed with Michelle's knowledge of ileostomies and care for them. She was so kind and gentle in a somewhat embarrassing situation. As we continued with Michelle, she recommended that we change to another type of ileostomy pouch, which made a huge difference in my ability to do ordinary daily activities. She is careful to make sure everything is looking good and notices any sign of trouble before it causes me pain. Michelle is always upbeat and happy to see us, which makes us feel so special to be her patients. She has made an invaluable difference in my life by sharing her expertise with us through respect and kindness.
