Michelle came in on her night off and brought the patient coloring books and activities to make her more comfortable while she was admitted.
There was a patient admitted to the acute care unit of the hospital that had a cognitive disability. The patient lived in a group home and thrives in an environment that involves routine and little change. The patient was struggling to adjust to the shift rotation of changing caregivers. The patient expressed that she really felt most comfortable when Michelle was taking care of her. The patient kept asking for Michelle and when she would be back to work. One of the staff got the message to Michelle that the patient was asking for her. Michelle came in on her night off and brought the patient coloring books and activities to make her more comfortable while she was admitted. I think this action of taking time out of her personal life to make a patient more comfortable is above and beyond her nursing responsibility.
