I cannot think of a nurse more deserving of this recognition than Michelle Groves. Michelle's standard is going above and beyond for every single patient and their family. There are so many examples I could provide to show how exceptional Michelle is, but one recent situation comes to mind.
Michelle was caring for a young gentleman that came to the hospital as a trauma patient. He was taken to the OR then admitted to a floor. The patient became tachycardic and was upgraded to CV for closer monitoring overnight. Michelle came on shift at 7am and her incredible assessment skills and nursing gut immediately told her "something is wrong." Michelle wasted no time, quickly started calling providers and advocated for her patient.
Despite being challenged on her judgement, she continued to advocate for her patient, whom was ultimately taken emergently back to the OR for lifesaving surgery. While this was happening, Michelle displayed so much compassion not only for her young patient but also for his mother. She made sure to calmly call his mother to ensure she was informed of the situation, and had her come to the hospital. Once she was bedside, Michelle provided a level of comfort that only a genuinely compassionate nurse can provide.
Michelle was able to juggle caring for her critically ill patient, advocate and coordinate with several physicians, and keep the family informed and calm, all with a smile behind her mask and love in her heart for people she just met that morning. Michelle has an incredible ability to connect with her patients on an intimate, yet professional level that puts everyone at ease, even in the most stressful of times. Michelle truly embodies the title of "healer," and is most deserving of this honor.
