March 2025 Honoree
Michelle Jose, RN
My wife was admitted to Walnut Creek Hospital with a broken femur. She endured four agonizing days without proper pain management, as the nurses struggled to handle her injured leg correctly, frequently moving it in ways that caused excruciating pain. It was a distressing and frustrating experience until we arrived at Kaiser South San Francisco, where we were met by Michelle J.
From the moment we entered the unit, Michelle’s warmth, expertise, and leadership were evident. She immediately took charge of the situation, ensuring that my wife's pain management, mobility needs, and overall comfort were prioritized. She carefully assessed her condition, confirmed her medications, and promptly set up everything necessary, including pain relief, a properly arranged bed, and accommodations for me to stay by her side.
Unlike the prior experience, Michelle’s clinical expertise and leadership in patient care stood out. She knew exactly how to move and reposition my wife's fractured leg with precision and care, minimizing pain instead of exacerbating it. The contrast in care was undeniable.
Michelle anticipated every need with a level of compassion and attention to detail that was truly remarkable, adjusting the bed for maximum comfort, setting up her Purwick properly to prevent leakage, arranging pillows and warm blankets, and ensuring that she could safely reposition herself without unnecessary discomfort.
Beyond her exceptional bedside manner, Michelle exemplified strong nursing leadership. Towards the end of her shift, she seamlessly transitioned into a mentorship role, overseeing and guiding another nurse who was continuing my wife's care. Michelle took the time to teach, support, and reinforce best practices, ensuring that the same level of excellence and compassion extended beyond her own shift. Her ability to mentor and lead by example speaks volumes about her commitment to patient care and professional development within her team.
Throughout the four-day stay before and after surgery, Michelle remained a constant presence of reassurance, expertise, and unwavering dedication. As a husband watching my wife endure so much pain and uncertainty, it was an immense relief to see her finally receive the level of care she deserved. Michelle’s leadership not only comforted my wife but also reassured me that she was in the best possible hands.
After such a difficult experience at another facility, Michelle restored my faith in the exceptional nurses and nursing leadership at Kaiser.
Michelle J. is an outstanding role model in the nursing community. She seamlessly blends clinical excellence with strong mentorship and leadership. She didn’t just treat my wife's condition; she led by example, ensuring that her team upheld compassionate, patient-centered care.
For her extraordinary care, skill, and leadership, Michelle J. is more than deserving of the DAISY Award.
