Michelle, our house supervisor, was the lead and recorder for a code blue on our unit. She kept the entire team updated on timing by very frequently telling us "you have 15 seconds left". She encouraged each staff member by telling us the quality of our compressions. Her calm presence and ability to speak up and lead helped the code run very smoothly and made everyone involved feel much more confident. She was constantly speaking up and planning ahead to see who was up next for compressions. Michelle is a strong leader, especially in adverse situations, she speaks up to ensure codes go smoothly and everyone is successful in their role. There were significant psychosocial/legal issues related to the patient's pre-hospital circumstances and Michelle was available the entire day to ensure the appropriate parties were notified of her passing. I have been part of several RRTs and codes with Michelle and she is a significant asset to have in these situations. Michelle's calm, yet strong presence and confidence to speak up is a huge asset to our hospital team. She is always positive and has a smile on her face. She is the type of leader whose demeanor motivates the entire team to aspire to the highest level of excellence. The situation described above, her leadership qualities, and continual advocacy of our patients and staff make Michelle a DAISY Nurse.
