Michelle was part of the care team working with a very sick patient in our COVID unit. The patient's baby girl was delivered at 29 weeks in hopes that her condition would improve. On Friday, the patient's condition declined. The family asked if Michelle was scheduled to work that day, which she was not.
When Michelle learned of the patient's status, she came to work on her day off in order to coordinate and attend a family meeting as well as offer support to the patient's husband and her parents. Although it was a holiday weekend, Michelle requested to be contacted if the patient's condition worsened.
Late Saturday night, just prior to midnight, the patient passed. Michelle came in again to offer support and assist both the family and staff during this difficult time. Michelle went above and beyond to ensure that this family had a familiar face and consistent support during this life-changing journey.
