A young patient and mom of three young children began to acutely decompensate. Michelle was the charge nurse on shift and oversaw the patient's communication with family. This patient had recently relocated to Arizona with her husband, who did not have any other family here. Michelle provided updates to the patient's husband, mother, and aunt, advising them all to make time to come see the patient. The husband was at home with the children and unable to make the visit without bringing the children. After the end of her shift, Michelle and her husband coordinated with the patient's husband, who went to their home and watched their children. She remained there till approximately 10 pm. This gesture ensured the safekeeping of the children and allowed the husband to come in and see his wife, which could have been a last moment as her decline was active. Due to the lack of family resources, Michelle's church was contacted, and they have coordinated future sitter coverage for this husband to allow him more time at the bedside.
