Michelle Marrs is someone that I truly admire. I have learned so much from her, and the most important thing that I have learned from being her coworker is how to be a leader encompassing a blossoming DAISY. When Michelle takes care of her patients, she does not see them as merely patients or an assignment. She sees them and their families as more than just their diagnosis, but cares for them as if they were her own children and her own family. She advocates for their safety and well-being in all aspects of care. She cares for their developmental growth, running downstairs to the volunteer office to grab toys during her break for her patients as well as all the other patients on the unit. She nurtures our babies, taking the time to hold them, talk to them, and read to them even though she could spend her time doing all of the tasks assigned to her, she somehow finds the time to nurture these babies amidst a hectic shift.
Michelle talks with the families and caregivers, making sure their concerns are heard and addressed. She is a strong advocate for the safety of her patients. The other day we had a fragile patient ordered for an MRI, and due to the nature of the patient's past, she advocated for this patient to have a more well-equipped team of a Nurse and MD be present during the procedure should anything go wrong.
Michelle's patients trust her; from the babies to the teenagers, you can tell that when she cares for them, they know that they are in good hands. Michelle always goes above and beyond; she serves in all roles for our unit. And I truly believe that CV Acute is such an amazing unit because we have a nurse like Michelle as a part of our team. She juggles being a SuperKids representative, Scheduler, Charge Nurse, Resource Nurse, as well as a Bedside Nurse. No matter what hat Michelle is wearing for the day, or if she's juggling several hats for the day, she always has the best attitude and instills a high morale wherever she goes. Michelle Marrs is truly a DAISY Nurse and is the epitome of everything that the DAISY Award represents.
