We have had Michelle many times over the years and every time I am thankful when I see her walk into the room.
M is a frequent patient in the PICU and both M and I adore many of the nurses and doctors that help both M and me to heal while we are struggling with illness and worry. There is one nurse that I would like to recognize today that exhibits everything that we value in a nurse. Her name is Michelle.
We have had Michelle many times over the years and every time I am thankful when I see her walk into the room. She is professional, detail-oriented, and a very skilled nurse. She checks medications with parents to ensure correct times and doses. She is attentive and anticipates the needs of both her patients and their family. But most of all, she is kind and understanding. She makes us feel like we are part of the team. We are included. She calls if we are not able to be at the hospital to give updates and asks for advice when she is unsure of what Miss M typically does or needs. I feel safe to go home when she is on and I am able to sleep and relax knowing that someone that truly understands is taking care of my sweet girl.
