Michelle works in our Piedmont Newnan Hospital Cardiac Rehab department, an outpatient department. She responded to a cardiac arrest situation at the elevator outside of her department. She received 2 nominations from coworkers for the DAISY Award and accolades from 2 physicians for her heroic efforts that day that saved the patient's life!

Nomination one stated, "Michelle was responding to a code. She took command of the situation. Called out specific orders stating what she needed to bring the gentleman back around who had stopped breathing. If it wasn't for Michelle jumping into action, the patient would have died. She was the first to respond and yelled loudly that she needed help. She didn't hesitate and called out exactly what she needed. SHE WAS TEXT BOOK! I was very impressed by her heroism and calmness in this situation!"

Nomination two stated, "A patient fell on the floor in the hallway. Michelle responded quickly and proceeded to direct the treatment. The patient required CPR. Michelle performed CPR while calmly and quickly instructing people on what the patient needed. The patient responded and was talking. Michelle saved the patient's life. She also kept the patient calm afterwards. I know Michelle feels this is her duty as a nurse, however, I believe she went above and beyond by directing everyone so well."

The patient's personal cardiologist wrote, "I wanted to share with you my observations about the heroic work that Michelle performed that day. When I arrived at the scene, she was providing tremendous assistance to the patient. She totally took charge of the situation and called for the crash cart. She recognized that the patient needed an airway and performed advanced airway management. Without her perseverance and strong will, I do not believe the patient would've survived. She should truly be appreciated and honored for her dedication and selfless attitude!"
