My mom was admitted to the ICU after going into cardiac arrest. We had been in the ICU for several very difficult days when Michelle Pickens started her weekend day shift. Throughout the weekend, she showed so much care and compassion not only to my mom but also to my dad and the rest of my family. There were several days when we were distraught when we watched my mom go through one issue after another, and Michelle would offer to give us a hug. It was clear she cared very deeply for her patient and their family. We weren’t just a day on the job for her. When the difficult day came for us to discuss moving my mom to comfort care, Michelle was once again there with a very-needed hug and comforting words. I know my dad was more at ease with Michelle around. Michelle stopped by to see how we were doing even though she wasn’t my mom’s nurse that day. She truly made some very difficult days a bit easier for us by her kindness.
