Michelle Rice, RN

Michelle Rice was the RN assigned to trauma the day that the patient came in. She was orienting another RN who had stated at the beginning of their shift that they needed more trauma experience.

Michelle and the patient have worked at Genesis for many years, so it was comforting for the patient to see a familiar face. She assisted her orientee while the patient was in the trauma bay. Michelle was calm while the assessment was completed. Michelle ensured that the patient's husband was updated as time progressed.

Once the patient was moved to the ED room, Michelle came in frequently to check on the patient, ensuring that the patient understood what was happening and what was going to happen next. Michelle kept the patient's husband and friends updated as results were coming in. Once the patient was assigned a room, she went with the patient for the transfer.

The next day, when Michelle was bringing another patient to the floor, she stopped in the patient's room to see how she was doing. The patient was very appreciative of the compassion that Michelle displayed and the professionalism that she showed throughout her stay in the ED.
