I would like to recognize two Pediatric nurses from Unit 44, Alexandra Pierovich, BSN, RN, RN-BC and Michelle Scott, BSN, RN, RN-BC who were at the right place at the right time and did the right thing. These two nurses had just finished a 12-hour night shift and were on their way out to the parking garage when they came upon a woman who was in active labor outside of the Peds entrance. Neither she nor her husband spoke any English, but it was quite apparent to these nurses what was going on. These nurses could have walked on to their car, assuming that someone else would help this woman. Instead, they kicked into high gear! They were able to get the patient upstairs to L&D in a wheelchair, just as the baby crowned! These nurses then left the building, again heading to their cars and exhausted. Outside, they ran into the patient's husband and children, looking confused and lost. Again, instead of waving and walking on by, these nurses took the husband back up to L&D to reunite with his wife and newborn baby. Alex and Michelle deserve recognition for being willing to step up and get involved to ensure safe patient care.
