Most importantly she made us feel understood.
My father was admitted to this unit after his diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer in August and then readmitted in September. It was a complete shock to use since he never had any symptoms nor was he ever sick. We’ve had many nurses each day but one stuck out to us the most. Michelle was his and our favorite nurse throughout his whole hospital stay. We were lucky enough to have her as his nurse for both of the times he was admitted on that unit. We were struggling a lot with processing everything that was going on but she made him and my family feel very well taken care of. She took care of every single concern we had, paged doctors if we had questions, always checked on us to see if we needed anything, made sure to explain everything that was going on, etc. Not once did she brush us off, but instead she took the time to be there for us no matter how busy her shift was, and most importantly she made us feel understood. I even remember falling asleep on the recliner and opening my eyes to Michelle covering me with a blanket and a pillow in her hand. She was an absolute blessing to have as a nurse. I wish we could have taken her with us when he got transferred to another unit. Though my father ended up passing away in September, I know we knew that he was in good hands every time Michelle was his nurse. I would really love to nominate her for the DAISY Award because she very well deserves it and more. She was truly an angel in disguise. Thank you Michelle for everything you did during the days he had.
