I was released from St. Vincent Hospital after having bariatric weight loss repair from original weight loss surgery.
I suffered a number of unfortunate medical conditions: DVTs in both legs and PEs in both lungs which led to two 911 calls and ED visits, and a readmit to St. Vincent.
I was readmitted to the hospital with a bleeding ulcer and stayed for 17 days.During this hospital stay, I was fortunate enough to have the same nurse several times. It's very comforting to know you are in good hands, and that the nurse knows what's going on when you have several medical issues all at the same time.
That being said, my condition worsened and the Rapid Response Team was called on. This was about 6:45 pm and shift change was about to take place.My nurse, Michelle, stayed with me and gave vital life-saving information to the RRT. She also never left my side as I was transferred to ICU, was intubated, and given 4 units of blood.I'm not sure what time Michelle left my side, but it was certainly way after her shift was over. During my 3 days in ICU, she came down several times to check on me, which was over and above her duties. I remember clinging to the bottom of her jacket as I was being cared for; seeing her face and hearing her voice was extremely comforting.After I was discharged from ICU, I went back to 6 Tower where Michelle was again my nurse.
Michelle went over and above her nursing duties in giving me personal care. This speaks volumes for her ability as a nurse and her kind and genuine concern for another human being.
It is my personal experience and opinion that Michelle is the best nurse and person I have ever known. Thank you Michelle!
