Michelle was personable, treated me with dignity, and always made me feel respected.
When I was admitted to the hospital I was worn out, weak, by myself, and concerned about what was going to happen. When I came into the room, Michelle was right there. She introduced herself and told me she would be "my nurse" and "would take great care of me". Words I needed to hear. She was an excellent nurse. She was intentional in every interaction with me- getting me a warm blanket, managing my pain, keeping me informed, assisting me to the restroom with a gait belt, didn't leave me stranded in the restroom, she waited by the restroom door, took me back to bed, and was careful to talk about safety.
As a nurse, she is very aware and knowledgeable of geriatric needs. She was personable, treated me with dignity, and always made me feel respected. She kept my spirits up and wrote down the names of all of the staff entering my room to help me remember. Michelle also called my brother to keep him informed of what was going on. That meant a lot to me- he's all the family I have- and she was so willing to call him and put both our minds at ease.
Her approach to caring for me was as if I were her only patient. She talked with me and didn't rush out of the room. She always made me feel safe. I liked that she wasn't on a phone being distracted or paged every time she was in my room. The care she demonstrated was indicative of someone who really enjoys being a nurse. She was kind, looked me in the eyes when she talked, and was very engaging. She made my stay there end on a very positive note. Her care brought me back to a place of healing. She nursed my body, mind, and spirit.
