Mick Rodgers, RN

Mick Rodgers was my father’s RN for the few days before and the day of his passing. We could not have been more fortunate to have him giving my father’s care during his transition. Mick was not only safe in his care, administering medications in a very appropriate manner for pain and anxiety relief, but also so very compassionate. He gave my father so much dignity in these final days, with his words and his actions. He worked really well with our providers as well, keeping them updated on his pain and breathing, etc.

The intangibles of Mick, though…the care he showed my brother and me- listening, asking about my father and his life, making him as comfortable as he could, checking on him and us often, helping us understand the process of dying as we were watching it and feeling it. These things you can’t quantify. And then when my sweet father passed…letting us be with him and the final care of my father postmortem. We don’t get to see that usually…But I experienced it and saw it. His care and giving my father dignity…talking with him softly, even singing with me, giving me comfort. I will never forget Mick and that moment in my life. An angel on earth, that is Mick. I am sure Mick has been honored many times before, but I feel he needs more recognition from this thankful daughter and fellow nurse.
