Miguel Uribe, RN came down to the Intensive Care Unit when we were withdrawing life support on a 36 year old patient who had been on the 5th floor for a long time. Miguel made certain that this patient with no family knew that he was not alone and that he had him as a friend and was loved. Miguel told stories about their many conversations and celebrated the patient's life. Miguel helped to ease the patient's fear and made the experience more meaningful and easier to bear for all of us. Miguel is the essence of nursing.
