December 2017 Honoree
mikael kirkham, RN
Mikael received a combative ex-marine who was suffering from PTSD. Most of the staff feared the patient due to his violent nature. Mikael worked to calm the patient by gaining his trust. He sought to understand the patient and create mutual goals. He prayed with the patient and held his hand during times the patient was afraid. Mikael always told the patient that he was on his side and knew that this was not a true reflection of who the patient was. The patient improved throughout the shift thanks to the trust that Mikael was able to build.
Thank you, Mikael, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
