Mikalie took care of an oncology patient at UPMC Passavant for two weeks in a row. The patient became a CMO patient in the morning on the fourth day of care. Mikalie spent the morning of the patient's last day on earth, attending to her every need. She literally spent two hours giving continuous hygiene care as the patient had one incontinent episode after another. She talked to her patient with such love and genuine care. What makes Mikalie's care so exceptional is that her own father just passed within the last few months of the exact same cancer. Every day Mikalie came and treated her patient with dignity and provided exceptional care. She also gave holistic care to the patient's family in their time of need.

Mikalie bravely shared her experiences with her patient and her own personal story to help her peers. She was very attentive to her patient, but she also took the time to complete her concept map and learn more about the patient's medications. She focused on her med pass and was able to manage her emotions and care for her patient at all levels. She showed the poise of a seasoned nurse in her care of the patient.
