I was in for an aortic valve replacement due to a blood infection that damaged my valve. Mikayla, besides just taking amazing care of me and my wife, who was there all the time, we were impressed with her professionalism, kindness, warmth, and, honestly, her knowledge. She explained so much to us, from medications, to symptoms, side effects, what was common and not to be concerned with what to watch for. On top of all that, she basically saved my life. They were ready to discharge me, medications had even been sent to the pharmacy already, we were getting dressed when Mikayla spotted an abnormality on the EKG- She decided to do a full 12-lead EKG, which confirmed what she saw, which was an electrical blockage. She stopped discharge, called the DR- they stopped a med and decided to keep me here another day to monitor. She then took the time to explain that it doesn't make the monitor beep, so we would not have picked up on it, but I could have passed out, had a heart attack, and a full blockage at home. Explained the med I was being under off and when asked what the future holds, explained all the possibilities and took our fear away. She really is just amazing at what she does and should be recognized for all her work.

Side note- We asked her how long she has been on this job, and she told us only 3 years. We would have lost a bet, as we would swear it was at least 10 years with her knowledge and how she handled everything. We wanted to move a certain way as I was in pain, she just did her thing, and in seconds, I was better and no more pain. She knew the better and quicker way to handle my issue and didn't let me tell her.
