He talked to us so gently and empathetically. He listened to us patiently and answered every one of our questions, even if we had already asked it a hundred times. He gave us hope in a very bleak situation.
“On April 7th, my dad went golfing with his buddies. Their normal bi-weekly golf game. On the 4th hole, my dad teed off and down he went. Cardiac arrest right there on the golf course. He was given CPR by another golfer and the paramedics brought him to Mercy Gilbert. When I arrived at the Emergency room I was in shock. I couldn't believe this had happened to my happy go-lucky, active father. My dad had been resuscitated, sedated and placed on a ventilator. He was transferred to the ICU. He remained in the ICU for 2 weeks, where, over that course of time my mom, brother and I met some incredible people. So many hardworking, dedicated, intelligent people. Of those people, one stood out to me. His nurse, Mike. Mike took care of my dad for 3 consecutive days when my dad was at his most critical. Everyday my mom, brother and I would come into the ICU, not knowing what to expect. My dad’s prognosis was not a good one. Mike was there, in the room with my dad each day when we arrived. He rarely left my dad’s room. He watched over him so diligently. He also watched over us. He talked to us so gently and empathetically. He listened to us patiently and answered every one of our questions, even if we had already asked it a hundred times. He gave us hope in a very bleak situation. I never wanted to leave my dad’s side, but I knew when I had to go home, he would be okay because I trusted Mike to care for him. I could never thank this nurse enough for guiding us through such a rough time and most importantly showing my dad respect, dignity and kindness.”
