Nominated by a patient's family:
Mike is an excellent nurse. He is professional and caring and has a great sense of humor. He tries to get patients to focus on humor as a way to get your mind off being ill. Some patients might not appreciate this, but it certainly helped me get my mind off feeling so bad. Mike is also very caring and compassionate. I was being given IV antibiotics which completely screwed up my taste buds. Not to be critical but on top of poor taste buds, the hospital food is...well let's just say "institutional" at best. I had not eaten much in a couple of days and had ordered oatmeal for breakfast, which sounded great. However when it arrived it was tasteless, cold and very gooey. Mike happened to be in my room at the time and seeing my disappointment offered to "doctor up" the oatmeal for me. When he brought it back it tasted wonderful! Needless to say most meals from then on consisted of Michael's "famous" oatmeal.
Michael was also very attentive. Although he was very loaded down with patients, he did his best to stop by on a regular basis. I have been hospitalized many times in my life and it is rare to find a nurse who stops by without being called or if meds or vitals are not needed. I cannot thank him enough. Mike was also very attentive to my handicapped mother. Thank you.
