Mikeala Kozlowski, BSN, RN

My sister was a patient at Baystate Wing in Palmer. She isn't the easiest patient; she is only in her late forties but has a past littered with substance abuse and mental illness. She was brought into Wing and honestly, all of the staff could not have been nicer to her, but Mikeala rose above the rest. She was a lighthouse that shone brightest and helped guide my sister to safer waters. My sister was on the verge of a psychotic break and had complained that her body was on fire for days. All of the nurses tried to help her, but Mikeala took time from her other patients to shower her, brush her hair, and get her a fan. She did this all while taking care of other patients, with so much grace and compassion that I felt compelled to let Baystate know they have an angel on their staff. It may not seem much but if you know my sister, know her aversion to being touched especially on the face then you would know it took someone special to do that for her. My sister felt that for the first time in a long time, someone truly made her feel human and that is a gift. Thank you to the staff at Wing and thank you to Mikeala.
