Several weeks ago Mildred showed her true commitment to patient and family centered care when one of her patients suddenly went into cardiac arrest, had to be resuscitated and needed immediate cardiac catherization at Broward Health Medical Center.
This patient and his wife were on vacation from Canada. Although the code happened at the end of her shift Mildred offered to stay and assist in whatever way she could. Not only did Mildred call the patient's wife who was not present during the code but Mildred waited for her to arrive at the hospital and escorted her to Broward Health Medical Center. Although Mildred was scheduled to return to work that night she took the time to stay with the patient's wife while she spoke with the doctors and nurses.
Mildred truly exemplifies all the criteria for the DAISY award: A caring and empathetic attitude, going above and beyond which has makes a significant difference in patients' and family member's lives.
