Millissa has a calming demeanor that gives the patients reassurance that everything will be all right.
She has been an exceptional leader for as long as I have known her. Her staff can always count on her to help out even when we don't even ask. She takes the time to listen to her staff on and off the clock. She is an outstanding nurse leader whom I have had the pleasure of working with her at Alamance Regional Medical Center. She is the unit's Assistant Director and overall fill-in space employee when we have vacant spaces in the department whether it is a call-out or a staff member who leaves a position. Same-Day Surgery is a special unit in which there is no system-wide staff that can fill in the spaces. Her expertise and experience are vital to our department. Despite how busy we are, while she has an Assistant Director's load and is being in charge of the Pre-op section, she always goes the extra mile with her patients. I have seen her obtain an IV when no one else could all while calming and reassuring the patient that she will do the very best she can by trying to obtain the IV as painless as possible. She has a calming demeanor that gives the patients reassurance that everything will be all right. Her job is far from glamorous, but she tries to perform it graciously amid the doctors, employees, and patients' complaints. She is not perfect but to her staff and me, she is one of the best. During troubles, she tries to keep her staff together by putting her personal needs aside. Lunches for her are few and far between along with fifty and sixty-hour a week. She shows Integrity by admitting when she falls short of an obligation, shows Commitment through her loyalty to the team, Advocacy when she backs us up amid troubles from doctors and patients, Respect for everyone she meets whether it is returned to her, and Excellence at the great job she displays every day she works. Her ICARE values are why I think she is a prime example of what a DAISY Nurse Leader is. She is a nurse of "many hats", and she is a leader over several departments. She has gone above and beyond during our Covid19 surges and opened our department to holding med surge, ICU, and cardiac patients to decrease patient load and stress on the ED and inpatient floors. She is always taking an assignment and is literally working right beside us day in and day out. many days not taking a lunch break to ensure each of her staff are able to. She is one of the most selfless leaders I have ever worked with. She is constantly adjusting and re-assessing our schedule to support staff and the hospital. She is very supportive and flexible, always willing to help. She is literally boots on the ground with us among all her many other responsibilities. She puts this department above her own wants and needs!
