I am new to pediatric nursing and came across a treatment that I was not familiar with for an oncology patient. I called the unit and Mindy answered in an extremely friendly manner. I asked if there was possibly something that she could help me with and she responded. She came down to the unit, helped me get a pump set up to where I only had to push start once I returned to my patient, she made pertinent phone calls to make sure that the orders were in the computer. She called the doctors and pharmacist and clarified everything we needed to know to safely care for this patient, and upon leaving she said that our patients are of the utmost importance and we do this all for them and I couldn’t agree more. Upon returning to the unit, we still were unsure as to if this was within our scope of practice, and again, she offered her assistance. She literally went above and beyond for us and our patient. I just really left, appreciating her, and wanting to let her know how much she impacted my night and my faith in nurses. I hope this email finds her well and that she receives the recognition she deserves for being such an amazing nurse and colleague.
