Mindy Rivera was nominated by her manager for always having an open-door policy for all of her staff. Mindy has not forgotten what it is like to be a nurse on the floor and can still be found changing diapers, turning patients, answering call lights, feeding patients or anything else that needs to be done to take care of patients. She even cleans beds to help patient flow and ensure patients coming from other units have a bed, so they do not have to wait in the hallway. Mindy is always supportive of the team and has a good balance of what needs to be accomplished and how it can be done realistically.
Mindy is the 1B Team's greatest cheerleader and believes in us. This makes us work that much harder because we want her to succeed in her director role. We respect her work ethic and it drives us to work that much harder. Mindy has a gentle way she can comfort families that have lost a loved one. They often come and seek her out even after the funerals. She has a gift of comfort and peace about her and has a gift for communicating and collaborating with psych patients. Her gentle heart calms them down and increases their cooperation.
Even though Mindy is a single parent she came to help us out during Harvey. She helped us care for patients, rubbed nurses/PCAs feet, and provided moral and physical support. Mindy always supports the unit's initiatives and is always willing to allow us the chance to try things to see if they work instead of just saying no. She is an inspiration to all of us and we truly have the Best Boss and Leader. She is what holds us together as one team and one family. She has been with us for 15 years and we wouldn't have anyone else be our fearless leader.
