She encouraged us when things felt intense, celebrated every milestone with us, and helped make our final hours before meeting our baby feel peaceful, supported, and even joyful.
When we arrived at Kaiser Redwood City to welcome our fourth little one, there was a mix of excitement, exhaustion, and the familiar nerves that come with labor and delivery—no matter how many times you’ve done it. The halls felt calmer than we remembered, but the weight of the moment was still there. We were settling into our room, taking in the reality that we were about to meet our newest baby, when Nurse Ming-Wei (Wendy) walked in with a smile that immediately set us at ease. From the very beginning, Wendy went above and beyond what we ever expected. She didn’t just check vitals and adjust monitors—she anticipated needs we hadn’t even voiced yet. She dimmed the lights when she sensed we needed rest, brought extra pillows without being asked, and spoke in such a soothing, reassuring way that the room felt like a safe little bubble. She made sure we never felt rushed, answered every question with patience and confidence, and genuinely cared about our comfort. It felt like she was caring for us the way a close friend would. As labor progressed, Wendy became our steady anchor. She encouraged us when things felt intense, celebrated every milestone with us, and helped make our final hours before meeting our baby feel peaceful, supported, and even joyful. The next day, after we transitioned to the Mom and Baby unit, she even came by to check on us—despite no longer being assigned to our care. That small gesture meant so much. We left knowing this birth would be remembered not just for the moment we became a family of six, but also for the incredible compassion Wendy showed us throughout. Her kindness made a lasting impact, and we will always be grateful for her.
