Ming had a really rough day. I had no idea because every time she came in to give me meds, ask if I needed anything, and do a general check, she was warm, compassionate, and professional. My night nurse, Tara, commented that the day shift had a really rough time and told me that Ming was struggling. So this morning, I took a few minutes to thank Ming for the care she had been giving me. I let her know that Tara told me she had a rough day yesterday, and she opened up a bit.
In opening up, I think we healed each other a little more, in spirit and body. I get to go home today, but she's a brave, loving, professional, and human being who deserves the same love and compassion she projected to me, and I'm sure all her other patients, even if they might not say so. She truly loves her job and loves being a nurse, and I was lucky to have her over the weekend.

Ming is a treasure to Duke's image and reputation. Ming is an excellent nurse, and I’m so thankful.

Ming was assigned as our day shift nurse after a bad experience with our evening nurse. She listened patiently as I described my disappointment in my husband's care and needs from the night before. She continued to reassure us that she would take care of everything, and she did exactly that. She made sure we were assigned another nurse for the following evening, and she went out of her way to listen to my husband's and my concerns for his comfort. She explained with great detail and knowledge how simple diet changes can help with my husband's illness and dialysis. The time she spent with us felt real. It felt genuine and not just part of the job.
