The Daisy Award is given to those nurses and staff that provide extraordinary care and go beyond. The MINOR PROCEDURE DEPARTMENT was faced with a situation that was rare and not part of their daily routine or typical population they serve.

In December 2022, a patient with special needs came in for a procedure and required the clinical excellence, compassion, and skills from the entire team. Not having dealt with many patients with these particular needs, the mood was a bit tense and unpredictable.

Well, they rose to the occasion and provided an experience for this patient and their family that will be never forgotten. In addition to the routine procedure the team was asked to draw important lab work that was not able to be done in a typical situation. The team gathered their resources, discussed the plan of action, and carried out the task with professionalism, expertise, and compassion. The special needs were met not only for the patient but also the family and the entire Minor Procedure Team. Following the procedure, the staff was so proud of each other with their ability to provide this experience for this patient. I was able to see the pride and satisfaction in their demeanor and on their faces.

The team was recognizing each other for their part in this experience. It was truly one of those moments that make you reflect and remember why we are in health care and do what we do every day.
