As a LEAD RN in Surgical and Specialty Care, Miranda strives to provide top quality care to all Veterans. Miranda is respectful and works closely with her coworkers to ensure that all clinics are running as smoothly as possible. She shines in chaos and through her efforts, the best Veteran outcomes are obtained.
Recently Miranda was tasked to accommodate an add-on General Surgery procedure. She was aware that the only available surgeon was already working with a full schedule, which included overbooked appointments. To avoid delay of care, Miranda took it upon herself to assess the Veteran. Miranda recognized that the procedure would not only be complex but that the Veteran was in an extremely vulnerable state. The Veteran was suffering from a history of chemical abuse, high anxiety, PTSD and now reporting significant pain.
Miranda's compassion for this Veteran was unwavering as she advocated for dignity, networked across service lines for a one time dose of anti-anxiety medication, and sought pain control. The beauty of Miranda's intervention was her ability to connect directly with the Veteran. In doing so, the Veteran was able to establish a sense of control despite the vulnerability of the present situation.
Miranda proved her leadership skills as she reassigned staff to complete the procedure, as well as keeping the Veteran fully informed of the plan of care. Miranda successfully provided Veteran-centered care with an excellent outcome. Miranda has continued efforts to improve Veteran care and has proven herself as a true DAISY Nurse.
