Miranda is what I believe all new nurses should strive to be. She is eager, shows empathy, compassion, has a great sense of humor and a lot of integrity. I’ve only known her for a short period of time but I have watched her grow and thrive not only as a new nurse but as a person during her clinical shifts at the health center. She is always wanting to jump in and learn and does great at connecting with her patients. An example that comes to mind, we had a patient who was needing a pregnancy test. This patient was extremely scared and anxious. Before I could even say anything, Miranda told that patient that she understood if she wanted her to leave and that she knew that patient was going through a lot. The patient let her stay and started to warm up. Miranda and I ran the test and found out the patient was pregnant, now came the hard part. The patient wanted to talk about her options, Miranda stood by her side and supported the patient during this time. When I left the room to grab more resources for the patient, Miranda excused herself from the room without being asked. Later on, I thanked Miranda for allowing me to have a few minutes alone with the patient in case there was information she didn’t feel comfortable disclosing with a student around. Miranda said, “that she just knew it was the right thing to do”. I simply cannot express how special Miranda is, she is going to do great things as a nurse.
