Mireille also took the time to listen to our concerns, answer our questions and really get a feel for who we and our daughter are
Our daughter was admitted the week before Christmas, when the hospital was at capacity and the staffing shortage was felt by all. Our first day working with Mireille, she was training a new graduate/hire. Her ability to keep an eye on our daughter and the ability to ask the trainee leading questions which made the trainee think and figure out the solution/identify what she was missing was amazing. To hear Mireille tell the trainee what to do and more importantly, tell her why it needed to be done gave us great hope for the next generation of nurses who missed out on clinicals due to COVID and who now lack a lot of the skills that previous nurses received during their schooling. Mireille was patient and gave the trainee all the time she needed, but never hesitated to jump in and make sure our daughter's needs were met in a timely manner. While doing all of the above Mireille also took the time to listen to our concerns, answer our questions, and really get a feel for who we and our daughter are. Much to our surprise Mireille showed up the next day, coming in on her much deserved day off, because the kids and her fellow nurses needed her. This day she was flying solo and we saw her in a completely different role. She ran non-stop between her two patients, yet when she was in the room, it felt like she had all the time in the world to care for our daughter and answer questions. All medications and feedings were given on time, and she answered the call button when we needed her, even though we know she hadn't had a chance to take a sip of her, by now cold, coffee and most likely not even a bathroom break. Somewhere in between, she was also continually contacting radiology to make sure an important scan happened that day. At the end of the day, she delivered great news to us that none of us were expecting and with tears in our eyes we hugged and celebrated. I am nominating Mireille because she is an exemplary example of what a nurse is. Her care, compassion and dedication to the children and their families is evident in everything she does.
