I was admitted to MAU after attending A&E. This was my first time having my asthma so out of control, and it was very scary for me. Mirela helped me to feel safe, secure, and well-informed. My reason for recognising Mirela was to do with how she treated not only me, but also my 22-year-old son, who is autistic. She really went above and beyond for my son, who was finding my being in the hospital for the first time very hard to understand and was struggling with it.

Mirela took the time to explain to him that I was getting better, but knowing he was autistic, she did this by showing him that my results were improving and that Mum would be home soon, but while in hospital, he was not to worry because every day I was getting better. Sometimes it is not just about being a nurse, but it is about being a human.

She treated my sons and me with the greatest respect and made my time on MAU so much easier because I knew my child was no longer at home worrying and was smiling again. I truly believe I was able to heal more quickly just because of this little act of kindness that will always stay in my heart. She is one special lady.

Thank you, Mirela, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
