Mirela Redzepagic, BSN, RN

When I woke up from anesthesia, I immediately experienced an intense panic attack. I was terrified—I could barely breathe or even speak. The very first person to come to my side was RN Mirela Redzepagic. Without a moment of hesitation, she held my hand, reassured me, and immediately recognized that I needed help. She acted quickly and confidently to make sure I received the care and attention I needed during one of the scariest moments I've ever experienced. Even after the panic attack began to subside, I was still extremely groggy, confused, and frightened. Mirela never left me feeling alone. She stayed by my side, spoke to me in the calmest, gentlest voice, and patiently helped me regulate my breathing by breathing with me until I calmed down. Her kindness and compassion brought me an incredible sense of comfort when I needed it most.

What stood out most was her remarkable ability to remain calm under pressure. She never appeared flustered or afraid. Instead, she immediately understood the urgency and responded with confidence, professionalism, and genuine empathy. It was clear that she not only has exceptional clinical skills but also a truly compassionate heart. Mirela turned what could have been a traumatic experience into one where I felt safe, cared for, and supported. I will never forget the comfort she provided during one of my most vulnerable moments. She is an extraordinary nurse, and NYU Langone is incredibly fortunate to have someone like her caring for patients. She deserves recognition for the outstanding care, professionalism, and compassion she shows every day.
