Miriam is an outstanding operating room nurse. Her compassion for her patients is demonstrated as she greets the patients and families in pre-op prior to coming into the O.R. She stands close by as her patients go to sleep and is right there when they wake up. She organizes and plans her day filled with cases with an exceptional amount of expertise. Miriam is able to anticipate what the surgeons might need before even being asked. Surgeons, anesthesia, and our staff desire to have Miriam as the O.R. circulator because they know the room will be held to the highest of standards and safety will come first.
Miriam serves in the role as charge nurse during many of her weekend shifts, planning and prioritizing the day to accommodate a board full of O.R. cases. Even after being a nurse for many years and with much seniority, she still voluntarily fills in during shifts that are hard to fill like nights and weekends. She demonstrates care and encouragement for her co-workers. She organizes lunches to be brought in to cheer everyone's day, she remembers birthdays of her co-workers. She chairs committees in our department and has overseen the holiday schedule for many years.
Miriam organized a huge in-service across all services to improve the surgical staff's knowledge of each service and reached across further than our department to include the surgical sterile processing department so that an improved and more efficient working relationship could be established. It is an honor and a privilege to work with such a strong nurse like Miriam who possesses impeccable leadership skills and nursing expertise.
