Miriam is incredibly kind. She was there for me during my three hardest days at the hospital.
I am so incredibly thankful to have had Miriam as my nurse. On Friday I got admitted after my hepatic embolization. I was at the hospital from Friday to Thursday due to a huge cancerous liver mass. On Saturday morning, Miriam walked into my room to see me crying from the pain. I typically have a high pain tolerance, but this was the worst pain of my life. I was afraid of how my nurse would treat me. I was afraid she would find me dramatic and push aside my concerns. Miriam is incredibly kind. She happily checked in on me throughout my days to make sure my pain was being controlled the best it could be. Miriam was there for me during my three hardest days at the hospital. She helped me take my first walks after surgery. She is thorough when it comes to explaining how the meds and anesthesia affect my GI tract, as well as explaining everything she was doing. I missed Miriam heavily during my last couple of days. Nursing is truly Miriam's calling. She makes an incredible nurse. I looked forward to seeing Miriam every day. I knew she would be there to help me with all my daily struggles with a smile under her mask. She always offered me ice and heat packs to relieve the discomfort the meds could not. Not only did she care about me, but she also cared about my roommate, T. She would always cheerily say hello to T and ask her how she was doing. She did this while T was not currently her patient. Also, T was in the furthest bed, the one near the window. Miriam went out of her way to acknowledge her. She made us both feel happy and valued. T told me that she had Miriam as her nurse twice. She told me that Miriam even stayed late, after shift change to be there for T when her nasogastric tube was being removed and T was in a panic. Being listened to and treated kindly meant so much. Going from an independent young, healthy 25-year-old woman, to needing assistance with almost everything was hard on me both physically and mentally. Miriam never made me feel like a burden. I hope that if I ever need to be admitted again, I will have Miriam as my nurse. This was my first time ever admitted to the hospital and Miriam made a lasting positive impact on me. She is a breath of fresh air. Thank you, Miriam, for being such an incredible nurse and person.
