Miryam Becerra Hernandez is a 7 Main Oncology nurse. She's been with the organization for less than 3 months, but she's already made a huge impact. Miryam is fluent in Spanish. I am a patient experience representative for 10 Main and 7 Main as well. The first situation we had was on 10 Main with a very confused, blind, and Spanish speaking patient. The Manager of 10 Main sent out an email asking for help from anyone that could speak Spanish to assist with this patient. Obviously, this was not a situation that could be handled over the phone. It required physical contact and face to face conversation. The Manager of 7 Main asked Miryam and without any hesitation, she agreed. Miryam was able to calm the patient down. She called and spoke to several family members in Spanish over the phone. She was very patient. She made sure he knew his surroundings and what was going on.
The second situation just so happened to be on 10 Main again. The patient was Spanish speaking and came with alcohol abuse. The patient walked the halls and staff kept trying to get him in his room and it didn't work. I realized Miryam was working and I went downstairs while she was in the middle of lunch and asked if she could come and assist. With no hesitation, she dropped everything and came with me. We arrived on 10 Main and the patient was in the hallway. She sat him in the chair and kneeled down to the patient and began speaking with him in Spanish. I don't know the conversation, but the patient stood up and grabbed her arm and she assisted him in the room. The patient seemed comfortable with her. He did everything she had asked. She told him he was in the hospital and he needed to allow the staff to take care of him. He took his shoes off and laid on the bed. The staff was very grateful for her coming to help them out.
Miryam has an outstanding personality. She responds with a sense of urgency, demonstrates teamwork and willingness to do whatever. I'm so happy to have her on our team. She's definitely a great asset to the organization. I appreciate her being a team player and having an ACE-IT attitude.
