Her commitment to sharing her knowledge and expertise ensures that future generations of neonatal nurses, interdisciplinary staff, and providers receive the highest quality education and support.
Misty has demonstrated exceptional leadership and innovation through the creation and implementation of a comprehensive Infant Feeding Management System, Keriton, across our two neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Recognizing gaps in feeding protocols and the unique challenges faced by our most vulnerable patients, Misty engaged staff in a system that not only standardized feeding practices but also prioritized the individualized needs of each infant. She meticulously developed evidence-based guidelines and collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the system was robust, practical, and aligned with the latest research. Her expertise and attention to detail resulted in improved nutritional outcomes and reduced complications for our NICU infants. In addition to this new system, Misty took on the critical role of educator. She organized and led numerous training sessions for nurses and support staff, ensuring a clear understanding and consistent application of the new protocols. Her teaching style is engaging and compassionate, and she is always available to answer questions or provide hands-on demonstrations. The feedback from staff has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing newfound confidence in infant feeding management thanks to Misty’s guidance. Misty’s positive attitude, approachability, and willingness to collaborate with colleagues make her an integral part of our neonatal team. She consistently fosters an environment of teamwork and mutual respect, which greatly enhances the quality of care we provide to our patients and their families. Her commitment to building a supportive and inclusive workplace is evident every day, as she encourages open communication and mutual learning among staff. Misty goes above and beyond in her role. She is always willing to adjust her schedule—even placing PICC lines and orienting staff on days, nights, and weekends—to ensure both staff and patient needs are met. Her dedication to being present for both dayshift and nightshift staff every week is truly remarkable. Misty’s presence is not limited to one location; she regularly makes herself available to Habersham a few days each month, in addition to her ongoing responsibilities at both the Gainesville and Braselton NICUs. Her passion for education is evident in her encouragement and support of staff’s professional growth. Misty has played a key role in mentoring several NICU RNs who have gone on to pass the Neonatal High-Risk certification. Her commitment to sharing her knowledge and expertise ensures that future generations of neonatal nurses, interdisciplinary staff, and providers receive the highest quality education and support. Misty has played a pivotal role in supporting and advancing the critical work of our milk technicians. Recognizing the importance of safe and accurate human milk handling in neonatal care, she not only developed and led comprehensive training and orientation programs for new milk techs but also took the initiative to become certified herself. By doing so, Misty gained firsthand knowledge and expertise, ensuring that the training she provided was both practical and rooted in best practices. Her dedication to quality and safety is evident in every aspect of her work. Misty patiently guides new milk technicians through complex protocols, always making herself available for questions and support. Misty is a pleasure to work alongside. Her steadfast positivity, approachability, and collaborative spirit make her a valued and beloved team member. She embodies the very essence of what the DAISY Award represents—compassion, excellence, and dedication to the nursing profession. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this recognition than Misty. She is truly an inspiration to us all.

Misty’s office is located at our Gainesville campus, but you can find her on any given day at Braselton, Gainesville, or Habersham campuses. She ensures our staff are ready and able to care for our most vulnerable patients.
I am a Respiratory Therapist in NICU, so our paths cross frequently. Misty is always willing to take time with me to discuss issues that may affect our teams. She is very flexible with her time and knowledge. She is a great mentor and sounding board; she is never hurried and always makes me feel seen and heard.
I am chairing a committee, a small baby taskforce. Although I am getting better at the IT details, Misty is always there to assist when I need help. She sometimes knows before I know that I need help, screen sharing, etc.  She does this with a smile and absolutely no judgment.
NICU is largely staffed by nursing, as are most all critical care areas, and sometimes, ancillary service folks get lost in all of the nursing business. Misty engages not just RT but also PT, SLP, OT, and pharmacy, she makes sure that we all feel appreciated in our roles.
Misty crosses departmental boundaries, creates safe and supportive spaces, and builds strong working relationships.
I cannot do my job without Misty. Our Unit is a better place for all staff and patients due to Misty’s commitment.
