Misty went out of her way to make a patient's birthday extra special. The patient had been in critical care for over a week and had received very unfortunate new diagnosis over that time frame. Misty bought the patient a piece of cake from the cafeteria and made a candle out of paper. Misty gathered the ICU staff and they went in and sang happy birthday and the patient was so surprised she was smiling and dancing in her hospital bed. The following day the patient was transferred to hospice. Even as she was getting ready to transfer to hospice all she could talk about is how much fun she had on her birthday, thanks to Misty.
