We had a young girl in the PICU. Misty overheard the patient's mother talking about how her daughter would be in the hospital on her birthday and that she could not afford a cake. Misty made sure that the patient not only had a cake for her birthday, but also several balloons to decorate her room.

We were working together with a family that was saying goodbye to their infant daughter who had cancer. It was right before Christmas, which is always a tough time in the PICU. As you'll notice in the letter that the patient's mother wrote, Misty was a phenomenal caregiver to this family. She is an incredible nurse, mentor, and person.

Misty, I know as time passes you may forget about my daughter and our family, but I will never forget you. You saw me at my worst, and I saw you at your best. Thank you for taking such good care of my daughter, and for being there for me. You assured me that I was doing the right thing. You hugged me and reassured me when I felt like the world was crashing down around me. You went out of your way to make sure that our last day with our daughter was special. I know some days must be very hard, but never give up, because moms like me need nurses like you! Thank you is not enough!
