Moana had never known my mother before this interaction, yet she connected with my mother in a way that made my mom look forward to seeing her at night.
My mother was hit by a car crossing the street; her injuries were extensive. Moana was extremely kind, precise, and observant of my mother and our family. She never rushed in or dismissed any questions; she took time at my mother’s bedside to talk to her directly and ensure she was comfortable. She listened to my concerns as my mother’s conversations started to make no sense, her speech slurred, and I grew worried. Moana spoke to the trauma doctor and took her for a CT scan at 2 am. It showed her partnership with me as the family, not knowing what to do but going off instinct, and the Nurse’s medical knowledge and training to do the right thing. Moana demonstrated the values, and you could see the light in her eyes as she did her job, taking the best care of her patients and their families. She always had a smile, was very mindful of coming in and out, and consistently checked without disrupting when my mother was sleeping. Moana had never known my mother before this interaction, yet she connected with my mother in a way that made my mom look forward to seeing her at night. She told our whole family and her friends who visited that Moana was taking the best care of her. Her actions truly helped my mom’s mental state stay strong, and certainly kept her alive and hopeful. Moana was truly an angel and an answer to prayers.
