I got in a really bad car wreck and was admitted to the ER and then transferred to 5N. The start of my experience was terrible. The original nurse that was assigned to me was not a good fit to the point where we were thinking about transferring to a different hospital. Modestine happened to walk by our room while we were having these issues, and she asked us what was going on. She listened to our story and made an effort to fix everything. I truly saw excellent leadership skills from Modestine. She went above and beyond for us. She was not even assigned to my room, but she made time to take care of me personally. I have never experienced a better experience in healthcare. Modestine truly made a profound difference in my stay at Truman Medical Center with her positive attitude and dedication to nursing excellence. I normally hate being at hospitals but because of Modestine my experience was very pleasant. I completely forgot about the bad experience we had at first because of Modestine’s extraordinary patient care. She radiates positive energy when she walks into the room. She even went as far as personally choosing another nurse to take care of me when she got off, and she introduced her to me personally. My second night at the hospital she came to my room again and told me that she didn’t have any patients and she was working on other things and she told me she would keep checking on me and that I could call her anytime I needed. Throughout the day, she kept coming and checking on me. I will never forget my experience here at Truman Medical Center because of Modestine. She changed my perspective on the hospital as a whole. She is the perfect example of what a nurse should be. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the DAISY Award.
