He genuinely wanted to make sure they were okay and wanted to offer support if they needed it.
Mo was a standout helper today during a code blue on the unit. Every Friday when Mo is here with the GVSU students, he is so helpful. Today specifically, Mo was actively helping the team when a patient went into cardiac arrest. His expertise and knowledge from working in PACU were extremely helpful during the resuscitation. He got not one, but two IVs in the patient who needed more access to accommodate all the IV meds they required. It was later in the day when I overheard what really made me want to nominate Mo for this DAISY. His students were done for the day, and they were having a debrief on the shift’s events. One of the students had been in the code with him and helped perform a round of CPR. I overheard Mo discussing the code’s events with the students and about codes in general. He genuinely wanted to make sure they were okay and wanted to offer support if they needed it. He spent extra time debriefing with the student who did her first round of CPR ever. His compassion for nursing is so evident in more ways than just patient care. He cares about nursing as a profession and how these moments can affect us as human beings. It was truly touching to witness that moment. I know his students must feel so supported by him, because the patients and staff he helps on 6 North are!
