I've worked with Moira for a long time but on this night, in particular, it became exceedingly evident that she deserved recognition for her wonderfully compassionate care.
My patient had been pushing, and after 3 hours, a vacuum-assisted deliver was attempted. When that didn't work, the decision was made for a c-section. When in the OR, the patient had multiple attempts at a spinal. During this time, the patient was becoming more nervous and we suggested playing some music. Moira, as the circulating nurse, jumped right in and helped to determine what music the patient would enjoy. When Tom Petty was suggested, Moira quickly laughed and said, "I love Tom Petty too!" soon they were singing one of his songs.
When it was decided that the patient would need general anesthesia for the surgery and birth, the music continued to play, and the team continued on task. The patient awoke in her room and we helped her to piece the birth together, Moira offered up the song that her son had been born to, "It's good to be king." She took note of it and made sure that the new parents had that beautiful piece of information to complete their journey.

Thank you, Moira, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
