Moira Kersten, BSN, RN

I am tearful as I write this nomination for the most deserving nurse, Moira. As a woman of color, for most of my adult life, I have had many fears about giving birth. When I became pregnant, those fears became so much worse. I went into my labor/induction as informed as I thought I could be, but still terrified of what could happen, especially knowing the statistics for black mothers in the US. As many things progressed, Moira kept me informed and laughing throughout the day. Even when things got tough, in the end, Moira advocated for me in my pain management and listened to me when I really felt we were near the end. I could not have had a safer and caring environment created by Moira. She was the best thing that could have happened to me for my labor, and I will forever be grateful for her and the rest of my L&D team. I never really knew what it all meant to be a L&D nurse, but Moira is the most exceptional version of a caring, competent nurse. All of her patients are so, so lucky to have her on their team.
