After the rain and flooding, we had a patient who got up one morning and found his home was knee deep in water. While wading through the water to the kitchen he fell and fractured his hip. His wife called the ambulance and rode with him to MHTW where he underwent surgery.
While the patient was here recovering, his wife had nowhere to go; their children were not in town at the time. Mollie from Pre-Op took the couple under her wing. Mollie made arrangements so that his wife could buy some essentials such as a bathrobe, toothbrush, and toothpaste along with other personal necessities for her stay at the hospital. Mollie came to me to inquire about meals and I confirmed through the dietary department that we were providing them. Mollie came back again to take the wife shopping for clothes and she is going to help the patient's wife rent a car.
Mollie has been wonderful with this couple. She has gone above and beyond to assist this family and she has a heart of gold. She truly is a gift from above and deserves the recognition of the DAISY Award.
