I have arthritis in my back and rely on my heating pad at home for pain relief. In the hospital, I used the warm blankets but they were either too bulky or by the time I got adjusted were cooled down. Day 5 of hospitalization along comes Molly and gets me a K-PAD and what relief! She also took the time to notice my tailbone area was breaking down and bandaged the area. A much better day for me.
Had I not met Molly, I probably would've left the hospital without sharing the "one" negative experience I had while hospitalized. She has a natural ability to draw out what's really going on. To make a long story short; I opened up and asked her to convey to supervisors, for future patients. She was respectful and thankful for my input. With Molly, I could tell the patient truly does come first. And when I asked her a question she didn't have the answer to she said, "That's a darn good question and have to look it up" - saying she didn't have all the answers and always learning.
Molly demonstrates all the values: Quality - constant check of name band. Assessments were done thoroughly and quickly. Respected my wish to take shower at a certain time. I had problems sleeping so I do know the hourly checks were done. I liked that. Hospitality - made my family comfortable when visiting. Stewardship - a great role model in the nursing field. Respect - My voice counted I could tell. Joy - The happiness I felt when she hooked up the KPAD. I hope she knows how I appreciated that. Justice - treats all the same whether a millionaire or on Medicaid. Teamwork - worked well with other depts in providing my care as a team.
Molly provides excellent care through communication with the patient. Being hearing impaired she looked directly at me, spoke slowly and clearly. Loud enough but not shouting, as some people do. I truly appreciated that. Molly took the time to listen to my concerns. Very thorough cares given in an unhurried manner. Another plus! She does not come off as knowing it all but the type willing to tackle learning it. The nursing field needs more like Molly.
