Mona was there and knew what her patient wanted and didn’t want. She advocated for him when he didn’t have family present.
We have been blessed to have had Mona as my husband’s nurse on two separate hospital stays. Each time, Mona has demonstrated excellent care, a much-needed sense of humor, a warm and smiling face, and sincere love and understanding for her patients. During the first stay, I was not at the hospital when two new hematologists came in and they were doing their job in wanting to start treating B’s cancer with a chemo pill. B has been very adamant about not wanting any further treatment as this is his second cancer and it’s aggressive. I was on the speakerphone from 2 hours away and we were asking for clarification on what the pill was.

B had told everyone that would listen that he wasn’t doing any chemo or immunotherapy or any kind of treatment. Mona just happened to be walking by and evidently heard us asking for clarification more than once. She came in and asked B if he wanted chemo. He said no, he did not want any more treatment. We understand the doctors were trying to do their job. Thank God that Mona was there and knew what her patient wanted and didn’t want. She advocated for him when he didn’t have family present. This is such a great group of nurses and we’ve been blessed. We were doubly blessed, on our second visit when Mona walked in as our nurse. Seeing her made B feel that he had someone in his corner if he ran into trouble. I could best describe Mona as a Momma Bear with a huge heart full of love and understanding. The smiles and laughs are an added bonus and appreciated. Thank you, Mona! We will never forget you!
